  • Repetto Eau florale EDT

20160427_122744_mh146270205546020160427_122744

My new all time fav scent! Love love love! The bottle design is the same as the previous 2 except this one is a bright sorbet pink emphasize the more lively and fresh take to the originals.

A floral Fruity Woody Fragrance: Notewise we are looking at:

Top Notes:          Pink Grapefruit & Cherry Blossom

Middle Notes:    Violets & Rose Bud

Bottom Notes:   Grey Amber & Cedarwood

Rose is a common note in all but smells totally different. It smells very similar to Issey Miyake L’eau D’issey florale EDT but weirdly enough the notes aren’t the same. Compared to the prior 2 this one is more playful and fresh the previous 2 were more sophisticated and elegant they were very powdery and sweet. Now that it is getting so cold I can’t wear it anymore but I will be sure to be wearing this a lot during the warmer seasons. What I love about this scent is that Repetto has actually managed to add just the right amount of fruity notes to complement the scent and not overpower the floral notes which some perfumers seem to get wrong all the time.

Available from: Stuttafords & Dis-Chem for 50ml at R895 and 80ml EDT R1095.

  • Riri by Rihanna EDP

This is the 5th scent from this singer. Riri describes this scent as flirty and femine. The scent opens with a strong opening chorus of feminine burst of passion fruit, sparkling cassis and Italian mandarin. Then transforms into a bridge of musky, sandalwood with final chorus of sensual vanilla to warm things up. This fragrance is part of the fruity floral family. It smells very sweet and candy-like which is actually the route most celebs tend to take, think Britney Spears and Katy Perry. When I look at this bottle and smell the scent songs like “we found love” and “only girl in the world” start to play in my head. I love the bottle design it doesn’t look like any perfume bottles on the market it combines iconic glamour with a sleek finish.

Pricewise we are looking at R745 for 50ml and R545 for 30ml.

20160409_11005120160409_110508

  • Sofia by Sofia Vergara EDP

Sofia Vergara is an actress her most popular roles playing Gloria in the series modern family. This fragrance is in the floriental family. Her favourite flowers being orchids and roses she wanted to incorporate those into her scent. I really like the design of the bottle it’s a simple yet elegant designs and not over the top with the rose gold accents and diamond cut compact bottle. It smells very similar La Vie est Belle by Lancome. It smells like fruity, rosy candy floss.

Note wise we are looking at:

Top: juicy blackberries, cassis buds and plum nectar

Mid: Colombian rose, violet, Columbian luna musica orchid

Dry: earthy woods, toasted praline, vanilla, sandalwood

This retails at R795 for 50ml and R595 for 30ml.

  • Adam Levine for her EDP

Previously I reviewed the male version but this is the woman’s one. The design is exactly the same except the colour of the fragrance is different. Smells powdery and woody quite a strong scent. I give props on the fact that it is very unique and doesn’t smell like any perfume I have smelt before it takes spicy, woody florals to the next level. Also this fragrance is pretty worth the price considering the quality and expensiveness of the ingredients that have been used in this fragrance.

Notewise we are looking at:

Top: Saffron, crisp citrus, marigold and spice

Mid: Indian jasmine petals, Australian sandalwood, rose petal

Base: benzoin, tears (ya I’m not sure about this one either), creamy vanilla.

Pricing wise: 50ml for R695 and 30ml for R495

  • Agent Provocateur fatale intense EDP

British lingerie brand Agent provocateur has launched a new fragrance this is the latest addition to the fatale family but this one being more intense the difference being previously they used a selection of mix of floral and oriental Fatale intense is a spicier more seductive scent containing things like black liquorice and spiced red chilli. The bottle itself is more mysterious in a cherry red. The scent makes me think of a woman who is mysterious, enticing, fierce and sexy. It’s a heavy scent, spicy but balanced with the sweetness of vanilla, rose and amber. The scent is too sexy for the office but perfect for a night out or hot date.

Notewise you are looking at:

Top: Black liquorice (Hint), Wild dewberry, spiced red chilli pepper

Mid: lush lotus blossom, divine champaca flower, rouge baiser rose

Dry: luxe amber, noir leather accord, Tahitian vanilla.

You can find this at dischem stores (100ml for R1395, 50ml for R995 and 30ml for R795).

How to beat dry lips and memories of lip-ice original

IMG-20150701-00688

IMG-20150701-00692 IMG-20150701-00694Lips are the focal point of you face and we use them for so many things so we always want them to look polished and in prim condition. And let’s face it is rather embarrassing to have scaly bleeding lips (way to kill the mood right?!) I’ve suffered from dry lips all my childhood but since I’ve started blogging I’ve learnt many things to keep it at bay. Let me emphasise that there is no instant solution to cracked/dry lips this takes constant maintenance so no magic cure product here unfortunately. Dry lips can be very annoying especially during winter. Here’s a list of beauty tips for dry lips that will help you sail through any time of the year with beautiful and moisturized lips. You may think of chapped lips as something that only happens in the winter. But the truth is, unless you take special care, your lips can get dry, sore, and scaly any time of year. If you do these things, you could be your own worst enemy when it comes to healthy lips. You Go Commando Your lips don’t have oil glands, and they’re almost always exposed to the elements. So if you don’t take care of them, you’ll pay the price. What can you do to keep them safe?

  1. Lip balms – a must for dry lips: Lips balms act as a protection from the sun. A thin coat is good enough to keep it greasy and it also helps lips from getting chapped. Use the right lip Balm Peppermint enriched lip balms soothe the chapped lips. A good balm can buffer your delicate lip skin from the elements. Choose one high in emollients. Check the ingredient list for petrolatum, which locks in moisture, and dimethicone which seals off cracks and splits in drying lips. Apply early and often. Whatever type of product you choose, apply it before you put on lipstick or lip gloss, not after. To keep your lips protected, reapply frequently, apply first thing in the morning, last thing at night your cleanser may actually be drying out your lips —both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide disrupt your pH balance and can cause chipping and every couple of hours during the day. To make this easier, stash a tube in your purse, one in the car, a third your desk, and another near the bed. I recommend the Original Lip-Ice has been here since the beginning since 1965 to be exact; it is the original source of lip care and has been looking after South African lips since before you can remember. Comes in a variety of flavours(cherry, spearmint, musk, bubble gum, peach-apricot, orange, cocoa butter and original) and are really affordable(R19,95). It’s back to basics and simple and using these again has just reminded me how much I love them especially the cherry variant. It is nice and thick so it forms a good protective moisture barrier.
  2. Protect your lips when you’re outside choose a lip balm with sun protection year-round.
  3. Drink up. Not enough water factors inside and outside your body can dry out your lips. You know it has tons of benefits for your body. One of those is to fight the dehydration that leads to chapped lips. On one hand we spoke of moisture being lost from your lips, now let’s talk about how you can regain it. The obvious answer is to drink lots of water to keep the level of moisture balanced. It also helps to clean up your system for an overall healthy body. Hydrating from the inside will help keep your lips from getting dry.
  4. Use a humidifier indoors. These devices provide the moisture your lips and skin crave. It’s great to have one at work as well as at home, especially in the winter. Turn it on at night to replenish your skin while you sleep.
  5. Don’t lick your lips. While it might seem like a good idea at the time, running your tongue over your lips is the worst thing you can do for them. As your saliva dries, it takes more moisture from your skin. Reach for your lip balm instead. Licking your lips when they are dry is a common habit that all of us have. But it is not a good idea if you’re looking to treat dry lips. It is a vicious circle, you lick, it dries and you lick again. Biting doesn’t help either (yes I am talking to you Anastasia from fifty shades of grey). It makes the lips dry and sometimes bleed too. Don’t lick your lips. We lick our dry lips to add some moisture, but it actually dries them out even more. Your saliva contains acids that break down food, but they also irritate your lips. Plus, continuously licking will remove any natural oils you have on your lips.
  6. Avoid irritants that get in touch with your Lips. Ingredients in toothpastes for example are proven to cause irritation on dry lips. Obviously you can’t stop brushing your teeth but just be extra cautious not to let it linger on your lips for too long
  7. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate Yes, don’t look so shocked but you do have lip scrubs to exfoliate your lips. It is obviously to help you get rid of the dead skin and make your lips soft and supple, ready to be kissed! Use a lip exfoliator or make an at-home paste with sugar and honey. For very sensitive lips, use a clean, soft toothbrush and brush it back and forth.
  8. For chapped and sore lips, slice up a cucumber into thin pieces and leave them over lips for five minutes (try it while you’re watching TV). It helps rehydrates your lips, and feels fantastic.
  9. Stick to lipsticks with conditioners like vitamin E, macadamia oil, and shea butter. Take a pass on matte lip colours in favour of moisturizing lipsticks. If you must go matte (hey, it’s a hot trend this season!), apply a lip conditioner before.
  10. If your lips are chapped, take a pass on drinking orange juice, eating grapefruit, and putting any other citrus fruits near your lips—they can cause more dryness.
  11. Say goodbye to those hot wings for a while, because yes, spicy foods can dry out your lips.
  12. Suffering from really bad chapping? Look for a treatment with ceramides, which help to restore the skin barrier.

Avon and Justine June favourites

IMG-avonjune

A while a got spoilt with a box of newness from Avon/Justine and I’ve had chance to sort through all of my faves.

  1. Avon ultra colour lip tint pens(R169.90)

Avon lip tint pen

Was so excited to see these I literally slapped these on the moment I saw them. I have a deep obsession with lippies just say an easy way to make a statement and pick up any look. These do not disappoint at all! Love love love! I received 2 colours freesia (a berry pink) and raspberry(a cherry red). Packaging wise as always these look expensive and sleek the cap clicks shut tight so the product won’t dry out or the cap won’t fall off in your bag. The felt tip makes it really easy to quickly and precisely apply the product. When I apply it the pen doesn’t leak or feel overly wet (if that makes sense) application is actually really smooth and I don’t even really feel anything. Very light weight I hardly even remembered I had anything on my lips and extremely pigmented. The colour does last the entire day just fades a bit and transfers once applied but once the top layer has transferred the colour afterwards stays put. It’s not drying nor overly hydrating and the colour does appear matte due to it’s nature. It does require exfoliation and a slick of lip balm underneath like with any lip stain otherwise it will emphasise dry patches. I’ve been using these daily for a few weeks now and they haven’t dried out one bit. Definitely recommend this for anybody who loves colour but hates reapplication and worries about transfers.

  1. Avon ideal flawless cream concealer(R119.90)
Swatches of Dark and medium respectively
Swatches of Dark and medium respectively

My second love as you know is concealer hides any imperfections without the need to wear a full face of foundation. Packaging wise this really reminds me of the bobbi brown concealers without the mirror which is not really an issue. As usual the compacts snap shut tight and is very small and light weight. Initially when you pick up some of the product you notice it is very sheer but don’t let that deceive you coverage on this is amazing. It is extremely creamy and actually silky it doesn’t dry out the skin at all even though it sets to a powder finish. I tried it over a pimple and under the eyes and it really conceals well in both cases. Lasting power is pretty impressive too and mine lasted for the whole day.

  1. Avon ColorTrend boost it! Mascara(R69.90)

IMG-20150625-00684

A lot of people really love this mascara this however is not suitable for me specifically as I prefer lengthening mascaras as opposed to volumizing ones since I lack in that department. I do however think it is a great mascara for someone who has the length but just looking for some volume. This hot pink tube clicks airtight shut. The formula is not overly wet which gives it a good amount of control whilst applying but it also doesn’t dry down to a crumbly mess. Dries and sets really fast because the formula is not so wet so you don’t have to worry about a major mess if you accidently blink I actually prefer drier formulas for this reason and even find that I only once a mascara has dried a bit can I actually fall in love with them. It holds a curl well and is easy to remove. My eyes didn’t feel irritated afterwards. The thickness of the formula again works great for volume boosting mascaras as it nicely wraps and coats the lashes also lashes look defined and I didn’t notice any clumping. It is a true black colour and the tiny brush makes it easy to reach even the smallest lash with less fuss. There is a bit of fallout and transfer under the eyes by the end of the day but not major panda eyes.

  1. Justine body balance even tone body butter(R105)

IMG-20150605-00650

A must have for winter skin this body butter smells like a green floral. Contains a blend of my beloved miracle argan oil, shea butter and grape seed oil. Very hydrating and thick so it creates a nice moisture barrier. It specifically meant to target uneven skin tone.

  1. Justine luminescence even tone day cream SPF 15 (R410)

IMG-20150605-00671

This comes in a gorgeous pink glass pump tube. It is very hydrating and lightweight making a great base for makeup application. The magic ingredients here are mulberry, grape fruit extract, argan, grape seed, sunflower seed, neem seed, rice bran, skullcap, wheat germ and saxifrage sarmentosa extract basically all the things you could put into a cream combined.  Specifically meant to even out blemishes and increase skin firmness within 7 days.

  1. Avon fan nail brush (R49.95)

IMG-20150610-00677

The concept is a quick striped nail effect which works pretty well and is really quick and easy to do.

You can find all these in the June avon catalogue

Introducing the new skincare collection from Sorbet

I still remember the days when Sorbet was just a salon this place is still my favorite to get facials, nails or massages done at pretty reasonable prices and they’ve pretty much been growing by the day with products being sold at Clicks and salons opening at many malls. They were kind enough to offer us a power hour mani voucher to get pampered before the event I opted for a gelish colour called “june bride” and am really happy with the lasting power, the staff are always well educated and friendly.

Last week I attended a launch with a difference the folks from Sorbet and Clicks treated us to a #SorbetSkinShow which showcased the collection on the runway. They spent many years developing the products so a lot of love and care went into them.

IMG1417637753425

This collection of skincare is split into 3 ranges and instead of opting for the traditional skin types categories (i.e. Dry, normal, oily and combination) they opted to address skin concerns instead which is ideal for me since my category is somewhat mixed I have oily yet dehydrated skin which means I sit in between oily ranges make my skin peel yet dry skin ranges make my skin too greasy (It’s a nightmare to find skincare that works for me. Trust me!). Packaging wise the products look quite sturdy and classy in glass like plastic also the tubs come with spatulas to prevent germs from spreading.

The ranges are:

  • Hydro Skin

sorbet-hydro-skin

The “blues” developed specifically for tired and dehydrated skin that needs a boost. Designed for people in their 20s. The 4 products in this range are designed to restore a bright and healthier looking complexion by incorporating moisture back into the skincare regimen. The magic ingredients in this are hyaluronic acid, shea butter, omega 3 & 6 and vitamin A & E. I was given the day and night cream (R149.95 each) to play with and once applied it really feels like I’ve just splashed water on my face. The scent smells like a green floral. The day cream only contains an SPF 15 which is a bit low so I would top up with a higher sunscreen afterwards.

  • Salon Skin Specialist care

sorbet-salon-skin

The “purples” developed specifically for problematic skin concerns (like break outs, blemishes and uneven skin tone) and curb irritated skin. Mixing a bit of science and nature together has resulted in the 8 products in this range which are designed to stop problem skin in its tracks. This is my fave range as they are products that will give you the salon feel. I was given the daily skin polish powder (R220) this one is a cheaper version of the Dermalogica daily microfoliant I compared the ingredients and they are identical even the feel and scent is the same, this comes in a powder form so you mix it with water to form a paste but I prefer to mix it in with my cleanser. It’s not too abrasive or grainy but does the job like a gentle exfoliator as it is branded as a micro-exfolitor which instantly brightens the skin. The magic ingredients being salicylic acid, papin, rice powder, lavender, grapefruit, tea tree oil and vitamins A, C&E. They also have a 3 in 1 cleansing oil which is a dead ringer for the Dermalogica precleanse at a snip of the price(R129.95), vitamin rescue masque and facial tissue oil(R220)

  • Age Affect

sorbet-age-effect

The “pinks” developed specifically for mature skin (over 35s) that the signs of ageing skin are a concern. The 6 products in this range are an intense anti-ageing solution for a more plump youthful appearance with reduced appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The magic ingredients are Q10, Matrixyl synthe’6 and vitamins A, C and E. I was given the day cream (R169.95) which smells like fruit cocktail very hydrating and not too thick so easily and quickly absorbed. I also received the lip and eye repair serum (R154.95) most eye creams can be used as lip balms (if you were wondering) due to the hydrating properties. I used it as an eye cream and I find it very hydrating and absorbs really quickly.

All of these items are available at Clicks and Sorbet stores nationwide. Definitely stop by and take a browse.
