Review: REN wake wonderful night-time facial

REN wake wonderful night-time facial (2)Now as a beauty blogger I don’t often get blown away by skincare products as I’ve seen it all but REN is a brand that always manages to surprise me with all their innovations in skincare especially their masks which are my go to brand if I’m reaching for a mask. Previously their masks always served up a lot of power and worked almost instantly. I’m quite bad though when it comes to remembering or making the time to apply mask this is why I was so excited when I received the news about the all new mask innovation from REN the wake wonderful night-time facial.

This is basically a facial in a bottle so quick and easy you just pop this on in lieu of moisturiser before you go to bed 2-3 times a week and let the REN fairies work their magic, no need to rinse it off or anything, it seeps in really quickly because it is quite a runny texture. Upon first usage the next morning when I woke up my skin looked more radiant, softer and hydrated

In summary how the product works in 3 phases containing many fancy ingredients that actually do work. Lactic and glycolic acids get to work to get rid of any dead skin you have, so you’ll feel some tingling as the exfoliation kicks in (on a side note if you have sensitive skin it is recommended you stay away from these type of chemical exfoliators as it may aggravate your skin) After that minerals including magnesium energise the skin, followed up by a healthy dose of hydration. Omega 3 soothes skin, cranberry seed oil helps reduce UV damage and sodium lactate moisturises and plumps

It retails at R620 for 40ml

sampar 3 day weekend

The SAMPAR 3 Day Weekend Healthy Glow (R250) is the best selling product in their range. The 3 Day Week End Creme is designed to provide the skin with the utmost protection from ‘urban’ and UV damage by acting as a sort of shield for the skin cells, to protect them at that level. It also works with your natural melanin production to boost that, and thus protect from the harmful (ageing) rays of the sun. Or UVA to you and me. This is a very unique product like nothing I have seen before it has no tint to it or any self tanning ingredients just some fancy concoction that speeds up melanin production. I was rather fascinated with this product to be honest. It is recommended for day use but I tend to like a bit more coverage during the day so I tried it in the evenings instead which is perfectly ok since it doesn’t contain any SPF. When I pumped it out it came out as a light gel silky like a primer kind of texture which concerned me a bit since I didn’t think it would deliver enough hydration to serve as a night cream. But was I surprised when I applied it I didn’t feel any tingling or tight feeling and I noticed a nice glow to my face the kind I just went to gym but not sweaty or oily skin kind of glow. I did notice a very slight more tanned complexion immediately but I am super pale I’ve been using it for roughly 2 weeks now and to be honest I haven’t noticed an extreme difference in skin tone only a slight colour change. They do disclaim that it may not work for everybody and I have read it not working for some people but even so I do think this is a great moisturiser and gives a beautiful glow to the skin. The gel texture makes it ideal for hot weather since it is lighter and more refreshing to the face.

sampar first hands cream

The SAMPAR First Hands Cream (R250) again this hand cream is in a totally different class of it’s own a very different texture than that of a normal hand cream it’s quite runny and not thick like all the others. This First Hands Cream is said to be the first cosmetic alternative to hand rejuvenation with a killer anti-aging formula containing hyaluronic acid and a cocktail of anti-oxidants. It promises to do all sorts of magic like diminishing wrinkles & pigmentation marks, but what I like most is how pleasant this is to massage in & how it sinks in really fast! My hands don’t feel greasy at all.

La prairie white caviar collection review

What if someone could wave a magic wand across your face and banish all dark spots and pigmentation patches, while firming up your skin, boosting hydration levels and taking care of wrinkles? Well, even though it comes in bottles and droppers, rather than the tip of an enchanted wand, La Prairie’s new White Caviar Illuminating Système is a potent alchemy of precious, multitasking ingredients that ushers in a new era of enlightenment in skincare.

At the heart of this complementary three-part system, which is comprised of a fast-penetrating cream and two highly concentrated serums, lies the brand’s most iconic hallmark – rare, royal caviar! This version was born in the Caspian Sea, a place of imperial pleasures in the glorious times of tsars and princes. It is spawned by a white sturgeon, so scarce and so desirable that it was once reserved only for royalty. Now, these golden pearls join space age bio-technology to create a trio of products that is like a feast for your skin:

White Caviar Illuminating Serum: Diolic Acid, Vitamin C and Oligopeptide-34 target the full range of pigmentation problems, including age spots, melasma and dark patches. It also prevents the further development of age spots and discoloration by decreasing melanin production and lowering the transfer of melanin to the skin cells. Besides this, an anti-wrinkle peptide reduces the appearance of wrinkles caused by facial expressions; Resveratrol protects the skin against stress; and anti-oxidants nullify the effects of environmental damage and premature ageing. In the meantime, pearlescent pigments and liquid crystals give the skin a lit-from-within quality – almost like walking around with your own spotlight! The most potent product of the system. This has become one of my favorite serums! It is a beautiful pearlescent serum that melts into your skin that brightens up your entire complexion while reducing wrinkles caused my repeated facial expression! I always say invest your money in serums as they contain the most actives. I really love how clearly you can actually see the pearlescent pigments and I always love serums with a shimmer as it lifts the complexion and gives you a subtle glow which makes you look more awake.I love the pearlescent texture of serum. It literally looks like a melted pearl when you put this on your finger tip and it goes on smooth like velvet.

White Caviar Illuminating Cream: Going to the core of discoloration and age spots, it treats both the source of the problem and alleviates its signs. It also carries a hefty punch of Resveratrol, peptides and anti-oxidants along with a host of other space age ingredients that help maintain youthful firmness. And the effects are almost instantaneous – thanks to the water-in-oil powder emulsion. This is a unique texture, where the active ingredients are suspended in water, to be released when the cream is applied, together with emollients that protect and hydrate the skin. It also has an immediate beautifying effect, producing a thin layer of powder that gives a smooth, even appearance to your complexion.  I thought it would be a lot richer and creamier from the jar, but it’s actually a very light cream that absorbs very quickly into the skin and it kept my combination skin shine free in 90+ degree weather. Really love the scent of this cream once applied it left my skin feeling soft and velvery smooth and even though it was so hydrating it didn’t leave my skin looking like an oil slick when I woke up. This is the only product in the range though that doesn’t have any shimmer in it which I would have liked and it would have been perfect.

White Caviar Illuminating Eye Serum: This calls on advanced technologies and active ingredients to zero in on dark circles, which are caused by a combination of excess pigmentation and deficient circulation. Here’s how it works: La Prairie’s Clarifying Whitening Complex and detoxifying Swiss Garden Cress Sprout Extract, together with Tragranate Licorice Extract, reduce excess under-eye pigmentation, stimulate circulation, and help prevent brown spots from forming. Golden Caviar Extracts and Anti-Wrinkle Peptides firm and nourish the skin. An eye zone-specific Crow’s Feet Plumper targets the radiating lines that form in the outer corner of the eyes by reducing the wrinkle network and increasing skin density and caffeine helps reduce the feeling of puffiness. This is the only Eye Serum I’ve used that have dramatically lighten my dark circles. I saw a difference over night. The serum itself looks pearlescent when you put it on your finger, you’d think it’ll make your eyes look glittery, but don’t worry, it disappears onto your skin. I think the pearlescent effect also helps to reflect the light under your eyes to make them look brighter.

My favourite part besides the radiance and banishment of dark spots? The charming packaging – a medley of frosted white bottles trimmed with silver pearls, which make them resemble pieces of jewellery. Magical, indeed!

Introducing the new skincare collection from Sorbet

I still remember the days when Sorbet was just a salon this place is still my favorite to get facials, nails or massages done at pretty reasonable prices and they’ve pretty much been growing by the day with products being sold at Clicks and salons opening at many malls. They were kind enough to offer us a power hour mani voucher to get pampered before the event I opted for a gelish colour called “june bride” and am really happy with the lasting power, the staff are always well educated and friendly.

Last week I attended a launch with a difference the folks from Sorbet and Clicks treated us to a #SorbetSkinShow which showcased the collection on the runway. They spent many years developing the products so a lot of love and care went into them.

This collection of skincare is split into 3 ranges and instead of opting for the traditional skin types categories (i.e. Dry, normal, oily and combination) they opted to address skin concerns instead which is ideal for me since my category is somewhat mixed I have oily yet dehydrated skin which means I sit in between oily ranges make my skin peel yet dry skin ranges make my skin too greasy (It’s a nightmare to find skincare that works for me. Trust me!). Packaging wise the products look quite sturdy and classy in glass like plastic also the tubs come with spatulas to prevent germs from spreading.

The ranges are:

  • Hydro Skin

The “blues” developed specifically for tired and dehydrated skin that needs a boost. Designed for people in their 20s. The 4 products in this range are designed to restore a bright and healthier looking complexion by incorporating moisture back into the skincare regimen. The magic ingredients in this are hyaluronic acid, shea butter, omega 3 & 6 and vitamin A & E. I was given the day and night cream (R149.95 each) to play with and once applied it really feels like I’ve just splashed water on my face. The scent smells like a green floral. The day cream only contains an SPF 15 which is a bit low so I would top up with a higher sunscreen afterwards.

  • Salon Skin Specialist care

The “purples” developed specifically for problematic skin concerns (like break outs, blemishes and uneven skin tone) and curb irritated skin. Mixing a bit of science and nature together has resulted in the 8 products in this range which are designed to stop problem skin in its tracks. This is my fave range as they are products that will give you the salon feel. I was given the daily skin polish powder (R220) this one is a cheaper version of the Dermalogica daily microfoliant I compared the ingredients and they are identical even the feel and scent is the same, this comes in a powder form so you mix it with water to form a paste but I prefer to mix it in with my cleanser. It’s not too abrasive or grainy but does the job like a gentle exfoliator as it is branded as a micro-exfolitor which instantly brightens the skin. The magic ingredients being salicylic acid, papin, rice powder, lavender, grapefruit, tea tree oil and vitamins A, C&E. They also have a 3 in 1 cleansing oil which is a dead ringer for the Dermalogica precleanse at a snip of the price(R129.95), vitamin rescue masque and facial tissue oil(R220)

  • Age Affect

The “pinks” developed specifically for mature skin (over 35s) that the signs of ageing skin are a concern. The 6 products in this range are an intense anti-ageing solution for a more plump youthful appearance with reduced appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The magic ingredients are Q10, Matrixyl synthe’6 and vitamins A, C and E. I was given the day cream (R169.95) which smells like fruit cocktail very hydrating and not too thick so easily and quickly absorbed. I also received the lip and eye repair serum (R154.95) most eye creams can be used as lip balms (if you were wondering) due to the hydrating properties. I used it as an eye cream and I find it very hydrating and absorbs really quickly.

All of these items are available at Clicks and Sorbet stores nationwide. Definitely stop by and take a browse.
