Bodyography A kiss to the classics lipstick collection and lip wardrobe collection review

20160514_150952

For those of you who have never heard of this brand it basically originates fron the USA and is a cruelty free! (Long live the bunnies!). This brand has been is SA for a while now but is not that well-known as you will only find it in exclusive stores like Placecol, Dream Nails and Perfect 10 Salon. Pity as the brand sits up there with the royal brands like MAC.

A Kiss to The Classics Lipstick Collection

20160514_15423820160514_154214

The latest lipstick collection from the brand. These five beautiful satin matte lipsticks are packed with pigment giving the lips a bold statement look with a matte formulation that is comfortable and hydrating on the lips. Named after five fearless women of classic fiction novels, There is definitely a shade for everyone as I feel they really did cover their bases with this collection.

It also won’t dry out the lip as the day progresses, we could probably thank the aloe vera, vitamin E, coconut and grape seed oil for this.

20160514_15305020160514_15295720160514_153113

They are highly pigmented, goes on so buttery smoothly without dragging and lasts all day. Not the most hydrating but that can be easily sorted out with a pre lip balm treatment. Surprising light weight on the lips I forget I actually have it on. Lasting power is amazing I can get a full days wear which is great for me as I hate having to worry about reapplying. They smells like watermelons.

here are 5 shades in the collection

Elizabetha mauve nude shade named after the Pride and Prejudice leading lady. This is my fav out of the collection as it is my perfect nude shade aka a my lips but better kind of shade

Lolitathis bright neon pink is very bold, it reminds me of the shade MAC candy yum yum

Annaan independent woman who’s not afraid to speak her mind, this deep red is inspired by The King and I’s female heroine. This is also one of my favs since it is the classic blue based red that depicts elegance and sophistication. You can never go wrong with this. It is blue based so it makes your teeth look super white.

Janeinspired by the incomparable Jane Eyre. A more pink-orangey nude suited for darker skin tones.

Jothis orangey red is named after the fiery protagonist from Little Women. This is even more daring than Lolita but will go great in summer with a bronze smokey eye look.

Mini Electric Lip Slides or the lip wardrobe collection (R590)

 20160514_15185620160514_15160020160514_151834

You can never go wrong with minis this is a collection of their best-selling lip slides with one exclusive shade. Minis make it so easy to carry around.

It is a hybrid of a lipstick, gloss and stain, it reminds me of the Almay liquid lipsticks just a bit more thicker and pigmented. The texture is thick but not dry and packs a nice colour punch but it’s more of tint. It feels pretty moisturising on the lips thanks to the vitamin E, shea, cocoa, avocado and mango butters. In summary think creamy feeling of a lipstick, shine of a gloss, longevity of a stain that is pineapple scented.

I always love trying out Avon goodies because you can find real gems at affordable prices. So a while back I instagramed a Avon haul there were so many products I couldn’t even fit everything in one picture J. So I have had a chance to play with all the products and here is what I thought were the best of the best.

As I have mentioned many times before Avon knows how to do lippies this is probably my fav makeup items from Avon. They have just managed to perfect lip products. These are the new Matte lipsticks which are so on trend at the moment. Most of the time Matte lipsticks can be rather frightening because they are basically more drier than the normal lipsticks and really out the lips these Avon ones however are so creamy, glide on smoothly, is long lasting, doesn’t cake or crack, doesn’t dry out the lips, feels light weight, velvety and soft on the lips. Truly a dream formula. Packaging is always beautiful and looks so high end they even made the tube matte. Scent wise it is that signature light fruity scent used on their lip products. It’s been discussed a lot that these are dupes of MAC matte lipsticks as “Red supreme” is an identical colour to “Russian red” I can’t even tell the difference between the shade and quality wise. The shade “Superb wine” is a dupe of “Sin”. The range mostly consists of dark colours which is so perfect for winter. I received 3 shades Adoring love, Red supreme and berry blast I honestly can’t pick a favourite. I’ve been wearing these daily ever since they landed on my beauty desk.

  • Ultra Glazewear Glossy Lip Pencil (R129.90)

Avon ultra glazewear glossy lip pencil

In keeping with the theme of lippies this is not as pigmented as a lipstick but is a lipliner and lipgloss due. Lasting power not as amazing but delivers a nice glossy lip once applied. Love that it comes a thin easy to hold pencil form.

  • Avon SuperExtend Extreme Waterproof Mascara (R139.90)

Avon SuperExtend extreme waterproof mascara

This is the only mascara from Avon where I have finished the tube for. I’ve chatted previously about the non waterproof one but this one is now the new waterproof version. This mascara basically contains microfibers that basically lengthens lashes by up to 87%. I also really like the wand it contains so many tiny bristles. The formula is fast drying, doesn’t clump lashes, flake off, or weigh lashes down. The want is nice and thin I don’t like wide fat wands since I find it difficult to reach my short sparse lashes with those.

  • Avon cream blush and highlighter duo (R179.90)

Avon cream blush and highlighter duo

I was probably most excited to try this as you know I love highlighters I just don’t feel my makeup is ever complete without highlighting it gives your face dimension and a healthy glow. Basically it contains two sides a highlighter on the one side and a blush on the other. The design makes it really quick and easy to apply. The formula is really creamy, light weight and blends really easily. It lasts all day on the face. The design reminds me of Benefit Watts up. The blush a dusty peach shade and the highlighter side is a shimmery beige shade, personally for highlighters I prefer more a shade that is more whiter or golder but this does provide a more natural looking highlight shade.

  • Kelly handbag (R429)

Avon kelly-handbag

I really love this bag it is such great quality and the design is really on trend with the leopard print. It is really large so I can store everything in it even my laptop. It looks so timeless and sophisticated. I am a real fan of Avon’s bag and jewellery range.

  • Avon true colour mono eyeshadows (R89.90)

Avon true colour mono eyeshadow iris icing

I received Iris Icing and Blackest black.Casing is really lightweight, The shades are soft and buttery, buildable and highly pigmented.

  • Avon gel finish nail enamel (R99.90)

Avon gel finish nail enamel sheer pink&pink shimme
Shades sheer shimmer and pink shimmer

The same formula as the gel finish range I discussed previously they have added new pretty shimmery shades to the range were you can literally see the shimmer particles.

  • Avon soft musk EDT (R200)

Avon soft musk EDT

Up until this point I haven’t liked any scents from Avon but wow when I saw this I knew I would love it. It reminds of my beloved Kiehl’s original musk. The bottle is flat so it is easy to store. Very often scent creators tend to overcomplicate scents but I like clean simple scents where I can actually smell all the notes at some point. This is blend of rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang and musk. The scent is strong but still femine and last the whole day. It falls into the floral musky category. If you love musk you will love love love this scent. A really great scent for winter because it has the warmness from the musk but the feminine touch from the floral notes. If you like scents like Chanel no. 5 or Kiehl’s original musk you will definitely love this scent.

  • Avon nutraeffects micellar cleansing water (R109)

Avon nutraeffects micellar cleansing water&mak

Glad to see Avon jumping onto the micellar cleansing water trend initially this all began a few years ago with Bioderma sensibio H2O. This stuff is basically a makeup remover for very sensitive skin and can remove even waterproof makeup. How it works in simple less scientific form is it contains tiny particles and just the right balance between oil and water to remove makeup and impurities.

  • Avon men 2-in-1 after shave balm & moisturiser (R88)

Avon men 2 in 1 after shave balm & moisturiser

I don’t if you are aware but has been this trend of using Nivea man post shave balm as a makeup primer. Basically how this works is if you look at the ingredients these after shave balms contain glycerine which is used in all primers on the market as the kind of glue that holds the makeup. Obviously this is a fraction of the price of normal primers on the market so it would be such a cost saver if this actually worked. I had the Avon men 2-in-1 after shave balm on hand and this is the same as the Nivea one except it smells less “manly” which I like. So does it work you may wonder, well keep on reading… So when I first applied it it felt cool and refreshing obviously since it is meant to relieve men’s skin after they shave. When comparing the ingredients between the 2 they are very similar the addition with the Avon one is aloe, ginger and chamomile instead of witch hazel. I found it works best without applying a moisturiser underneath since it essentially is supposed to have a built in moisturiser. The stuff is the best discovery ever! How you use it is you wash you face, apply a pea size amount and rub in your face until it feels tacky. Then apply your makeup as normal. After 10 hours my foundation still looked flawless, fresh and intact.

Get picture perfect skin with Rimmel match perfection foundation and Rimmel fix & protect makeup primer plus I discuss the benefits of a primer.

rimmel match perfection foundation 4Now there are a lot of arguments about primers but it is more a case of once you try it you can’t really live without it. Sure it seems like an extra expense that you could probably think you could do without and if these are your thoughts you’ve probably never tried it before. I’m quite glad Rimmel has brought out a drug store price primer as a lot of drugstore brands don’t even produce these and they are only then reserved for the high end names. I love primers but I don’t wear it every single time I use foundation I like to wear it underneath my foundation when I require a full days makeup wear but there are many other benefits which I will list below:

1. Seals pores: Even if you don’t have large pores foundation can sink into them and emphasis pores.
2. Baby soft skin: It make you skin feel like a baby’s bottom which is mainly due to the silicone found in it.
3. Smoother makeup:
it creates a smooth canvas with some “slippey” to make everything apply smoother.
4. Non-comedogenic: Meaning it won’t clog your pores, which would irritate your skin and cause breakouts.
5. Makes your skin look younger:
The primer will sink into your wrinkles and kind of act like a filler.
6. Makeup stays on longer: The main reason for primers, it helps keep oil at bay which could melt off makeup.
<em>7. Keeps oil at bay: this nifty tool actually creates a layer over the skin and seals oil in so it doesn’t surface which is perfects for all the oily skinned gals.
8. Hides imperfections: Some brands now have a rainbow of coloured primers which help to combat certain skin imperfection.

The Rimmel fix & protect primer (R99,95) is a very different formula for a primer that I have come across it is a metallic pearl colour (not clear) and contains a SPF 25. The white shimmer gives a nice illuminating glow. Rimmel says you can wear it alone too but I would only recommend that if you have flawless skin since shimmers will highlight imperfections. This is my new fave primer it is affordable, prolongs my makeup, brightens my complexion and makes my makeup slide on easily. The added SPF provides a barrier to protect against sun, pollution and stress. This primer is light weight and actually somewhat seeps into the skin instead of sitting on the surface like others this is likely due to the runnier formula. While some foundations and BB cream claim to have added primer properties in the product, this basically means they have added the primer inside instead of you having to apply a separate layer I find this a complete nightmare as the foundation is then so slippery that everything just slides off so it is best to apply a primer and foundation separately.

Now let’s chat about the Rimmel match perfection foundation (R149.95)

rimmel match perfection foundation 1

rimmel match perfection foundation 3

rimmel match perfection foundation 10

rimmel match perfection foundation

These have been around for a while so this is just some shade changes and a bottle revamp basically. The name basically says it all it is match perfection i.e. it has skin adapting technology that adapts to the shade of your skin giving invisible coverage. I did notice a slight blending and adapting effect but this wasn’t drastic I think the adapting portion is mainly due to the fact that most of the product gets absorbed into the skin.

My match is Ivory 100 which is the lightest neutral tone in the collection of 8. It comes in a nice sleek pump bottle which makes it look pretty high end but heavier to travel with. I find it best suited to be applied with a foundation brush, I feel it gives more of an even coverage than when I apply it with my fingers since it sets very quickly so it won’t budge after I place it on my face. Dries to a semi matte (aka satin) finish. As I said it sets really quickly and well I don’t get any transfer on my clothes or even when I touch my face so you won’t need to set this with a powder or spray however for the oil skinned girls by midday this does leave your skin looking a bit on the oily shiny side but this can easily be fixed with some blotting paper or some powder.

rimmel match perfection foundation swatch 1

rimmel match perfection foundation swatches 3

Initially when I saw light reflecting I was concerned since I loathe foundation with shimmers in it as the disco ball look is not attractive at all but bi am glad to report that I didn’t detect any shimmer or metallic particles. Coverage wise I found it pretty light but buildable up to a medium coverage so you will still need to reach for concealer. Rimmel match perfection is quite hydrating doesn’t dry out the skin. It also doesn’t cake, move or emphasise dry patches. The product is said to be weighless which I don’t agree with it is not heavy but I can still feel it is there this is also mostly due to the strong scent which doesn’t fade so if you are sensitive to scents you won’t like this one. This reminds me of the infamous Bourjois healthy mix serum gel foundation actually.

Review: Avon October 2015 favourites

Avon is always famous for bringing out so many new products each month so below I chat through my favourites.

Avon october favs

  1. Avon ultra colour lip crayon-raspberry rush (R129,95)

I’ve used these before they have just brought out a new shades. The shade raspberry red is a cross between plum and red. The pen format allows for easy control and can also be used as a lip liner and doesn’t require any sharpening I find these the easiest and most convenient to use. It is very pigmented and glides on smoothly. Smells good enough to eat like lollipops. The formula is creamy but feels a bit heavy on the lips. It is also very hydrating and not drying at all however it can easily transfer and is not long lasting at all but that is expected with the playoff between lasting power and hydration.

avon swatch ultra colour lip crayon raspberry rush

  1. Avon super extend precise liquid liner (R119,95)

Now liquid liners especially pen formats still make me nervy one wrong move and you have a big mess. You really need to know what you are doing and have a steady hand however this can be perfected with practise over time. If you know what you are doing pens are your best friend they are quick and convenient. Packaging wise the pen is very thin and has a grip to make it easy to control and hold I would have however liked the lid to click shut as it feels a bit loose to me so thing may dry quicker but I’ve been using it for about a month and it hasn’t dried yet. The point is very sharp but fortunately it is very soft and bends as you apply. The tip is really thin so you can draw really thin lines for a natural look or build a thick line. The pen glides on really smoothly, doesn’t tug or pull the eye lid, is highly pigmented and dries instantly. I don’t really know why it is called superextend since it is not water proof one drop of water and a gentle rub and it disappears however if you don’t come into contact with water it does stay put the whole day.

  1. Avon 3D plumping lipgloss-mauve (R109,95)

Packaging wise I love the new brush they use  lip brush format instead of a sponge tip. I didn’t notice a massive pluming effect but generally anything glossy or shimmery gives you a 3D effect. It smells strongly of peppermint which is the ingredient that gives you the plumping effect. The peppermint is always what gives you that tingling refreshing feeling when you apply it. Not sticky, is hydrating and moisturises the lip but again not long lasting.

  1. Avon glow bronzing pearls-deepest bronze (R159,95)

Now these have been around for ages they have just brought out new shades. This is nice to dust over as a setting powder which matiffies the skin, which warms up the complexion and you a nice healthy sun kissed glow. Or it can be used as a blush if lightly applied over cheeks. I would recommend it for contouring though as it is a bit too orange and shimmery. Lasting power is pretty good as it is still visible by the end of the day. The packaging reminds me of Guerlain meteorites pearls but the balls sometimes get stuck in my brush and it can get messy. The shade deepest bronze is a metallic light copper shade. You need to be quite light handed with this as it is quite pigmented and too much makes you look unnatural like one of those disaster fake tans. The scent bothers me a bit it has a strong “old lady” scent to it but once applied on the face I don’t really notice it.

avon swatch of avon glow bronzing pearls deepest bronze with and without flash

  1. Avon big & false lash volume mascara (R139,95)

Packaging wise I really like the big tube it makes it easy to hold also the lid clicks shut sealing it airtight. The brush is a bit big for my liking as I battled to reach the smaller lashes in the corners and the bottom lashes. The formula is quite dry which makes it dry quickly. I don’t notice a false lash effect however it gives great volume but doesn’t do much on the length side. Quite buildable I applied 3 coats in the photo and it got a little more dramatic after each coat and didn’t clump as the brush separated the lashes nicely. It s great for sensitive eyes as it didn’t irritate my eyes. The formula is quite impressive as it held the curl but retained elasticity and by the end of the day it didn’t crumble and I didn’t notice anything underneath my eye. It was easily removed with my normal cleanser I didn’t need an eye makeup remover.

avon big and dari

  1. Avon colortrend nail enamel-hot (R39,95)

The colour hot can be described as Christmas in a bottle. It’s a nice small bottle so you don’t have to commit to the same colour and it is actually possible to finish the it as I don’t know about you but I have never managed to finish a nail polish. It dries really quickly but the formula is quite thin and the lasting power is not great it chips really quickly but for this price one would expect that.

  1. Avon nail art press-on nails (R119,95)

These remind me a lot of the broadway nails impress but slightly cheaper with better designs. There are 24 in a pack so you will definitely find your size. Love these they really make manis so quick and easy you just peel off the adhesive tab, press and go. So much cheaper and easier they booking a mani at the salon or even painting you nails yourself. There is no drying time or UV lamps required and these don’t damage your nail either. They last really long I got over a weeks wear. Removal is also painless you can just peel them off or use nail polish remover and they come right off. The design stays glossy and remains the same throughout your wear.

Review: Throw away your eyelash curlers as Rimmel 24 hr supercurler volume & curl mascara has arrived

rimmel supercurler mascara 2

Rimmel mascaras such a nostalgic memory I have of their mascaras. I was about 11 and I was wondering around Clicks beauty section looking for my first ever mascara as I had just learnt that I really need a mascara for my non-existent lashes I was immediately drawn to the Rimmel glam’ eyes mascara the packaging was just so eye catching and was my fave colour pink. What was inside was just as amazing and was the only mascara that I have ever finished.

Rimmel supercurler mascara 1 rimmel supercurler mascara 3 rimmel supercurler mascara 3 (2) rimmel super curler mascara 4 rimmel supercurler mascara 8 rimmel supercurler mascara 7 rimmel supercurler mascara 6

Now I typical asian lashes they are very short and lie quite flat so I have to be really fussy when it comes to the type of mascaras that will actually work on my lashes so there aren’t many mascaras that land on my beauty desk that really wow me and I’ve tossed many alike. If you were wondering for asian eyes you need a wand that is not too big, a formula which is not too wet and a lengthening mascara. Which is why this mascara is not particularly suited for my lashes specifically suited for my lashes but may be for yours.

The Rimmel 24 HR supercurler mascara basically offers is a volumising  mascara with a 24 hr curling power so you can use it without an eyelash curler.  This is a really great idea since eyelash curlers can be quite a torture instrument as clipping your eyelid is extremely painful but I have to curl my lashes otherwise the mascara won’t make any difference to my lashes.

Rimmel supercurler mascara before and after

Now for what I thought:

Packaging wise I always love rimmel mascaras they make the most beautiful eye catching tubes, this one is a beautiful metallic purple rocket shape, the large rocket shape makes it easy to hold and find in your makeup bag.

The brush is very large and curved to shape the contours of your eye. Personally because my lashes are short I find the smaller the brush the better it works for my lashes. The curve on the brush is the main feature for the curling effect as it actually scoops the lashes upwards.

The formula is rather dry but I prefer this over really wet formula that take longer to dry so when I blink I end of with a hot mess. The colour is a really intense black. The brush doesn’t pick up much product so you can go from natural and build it up to how dramatic you want  it. It doesn’t offer much length but does wrap the lashes nicely without clumping to offer volume. For my lashes it did hold up the lashes for the whole day however it wasn’t as dramatic as if I used a lash curler since my lashes literally lie down so curling it is a real mission. There is also minimal flaking and fallout at the end of the day under the eye.

You can find this mascara at all major retailers like Clicks, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, Foschini, Edgars, The Hub, Pick n Pay and pharmacies for R119.95

Going from L to R the swatched shades are 09 matt porcelain, 02 matt beige, 50 matt caramel and 60 matt mahogany

Essence soft touch mousse remind me of Maybelline dream matte mousse in all ways and really is a true dupe from packaging to quality and feel.

Packaging wise it comes in a glass jar which is not as travel friendly as it’s heavier and prone to breaking.

It definitely feels and looks like mousse the product glides on like velvet most likely due to all the silicone in it. Is extremely light weigh I barely notice I have it on and it offers a very high coverage since its thick enough to sit on top of the face rather than be absorbed. It sets to a nice matte finish and stays put on the face all day. This foundation is perfect for oily skinned girls as it is oil free and keeps the shine away from your T-zone all day. The texture is amazingly soft and does a great job at concealing blemishes and redness in the process. Product is best applied with you fingers due to the thick texture there is really no way to apply it with a brush but if you really don’t want to use your hands you can use a makeup sponge or beauty blender.

You can find these at Clicks and selected Dis-chem stores at only R69.95 they are as cheap as chips.

New launches from Avon

New launches from Avon

Always love Avon as a brand who always comes out with so many new products at such affordable prices. All these items can be found and purchased from the new April brochure which has Avon cherish fragrance on the cover.

  1. Avon colour correcting pearls (R159.95)

Avon cc pearls

The pearls mix together to give a colour combination that corrects all your skin concerns. It is a possible dupe for Guerlain Meteorites pearls except these are shimmery and the Guerlain ones are matt but it’s a fraction of the prices.  It gives a nice glow and doesn’t dry out the skin it can be used as a setting powder over foundation or just on the cheeks as a blushes as the red colour tends to dominate the other pearls. It gives a nice subtle glowy sheen and is not over-shimmery( which is something I tend to avoid as it makes my face look larger and too shiny) It has a light subtle scent which you barely notice once it is applied.

  1. Avon darby earings and bracelet (R109 and R119 respectively)
Pretty Pretty
Pretty Pretty

I am always amazed at the quality of the Avon jewellery collection they look beautiful and last ages without changing colour, falling apart or looking like a cheap piece of plastic. I would even go as far to say they are better than the overpriced Zuri’s costume jewellery.

  1. Tinted lip balms(R129.95)

avon lipbalm

These lip balms aren’t like other tinted lip balms on the market that only offer a hint of colour which you can hardly see this one really does pack a lot of colour. It contains bees wax which seals in moisture. The one I received is the shade reviving raspberry which is a hot pink. It doesn’t offer as much colour as a lipstick would but is really nice for a hint of colour that actually shows up on the lips plus the lasting power is amazing like with many Avon lip product.

  1. ColourTrend Glossy lip pencil ( R89.95)

avon glossy lip pencil

These lippies come in a very convenient crayon packaging but although it does offer a high gloss finish I do feel that the colour payoff is rather sheer.

  1. Bright start fresh look foundation SPF 15 (R189.90)

avon bright start foundation

Contains super foods like pomegranate and orange extract and contains collagen and elastin which instantly boosts skin’s moisture. All Avon foundations I’ve tested are more aimed for oily skin types and this is no exception which is probably why it is oil free. When applied it does give a glowy effect without the use of shimmers(which as you know I loathe in foundations) It gives quite a sheer natural coverage so I would rather think of it as a tinted moisturiser than a foundation. The nice air tight pump packaging does preserve the active ingredients for longer. My skin is more on the normal side so it did dry out my skin after a while if you are like me I would suggest you first apply a moisturiser underneath.

  1. Avon supreme oils range

IMG-20150324-00453

This range consists of 5 oils which restore elasticity, revive radiance, provide nourishment and salon worthy softness. Lately all brands are about the hair oil fad and hair oil is great for dry hair the best oil being argan oil which I’m disappointed isn’t in the ingredients. I pick up on macadamia, grape seed and almond oil in the ingredients list. The duo treatment spay is particularly nice as you just give your hair a few spritz to freshen it up and tame frizz.

  1. Intensive relief range

IMG-20150324-00455

Just in time for winter this range is specifically designed for extremely dry and sensitive skin

  1. Silky moisture tissue oil (R139.95)

IMG-20150324-00458

This gorgeous pink tissue oil contains argan oil. I like to add a few drops of this to my bath.

  1. Avon cherish EDP (R370)

avon cherish

Avon is a brand with makes it pretty simple to layer and amplify scents as they come in a body lotion variant too. So basically how layering works is you apply the body lotion then the perfume as moisturised skin holds on to fragrance molecules better but it is tough sometimes to find a scentless moisturiser to pair with other fragrances.  In my opinion the two notes that I smell the most are musk and orange blossom. The last one does give it a bit of floral scent to it, but the musk makes it very strong and creamy.

Top notes: Pink Pepper, Cherry Blossom.

Middle notes: Tiare Flower, Jasmine Sambac.

Base notes: White Musk, Sandalwood.

It’s soft and sweet (but subtly so), and, to me, smells very French. It’s got a musky base that gives it an edge and jasmine and sandalwood are also in the mix. Lasting power is not as great so be prepared to reapply during the day. The bottle looks beautiful but the cap is more decorative then practical as the scent can still spray without removing the cap and it is pretty open so the scent evaporates more quicker. I imagine this to be more of an autumn kind of a scent.
