The may box was dedicated to hair. This box was absolutely amazing definitely in my top 3 boxes I’ve received. A good hair month this was indeed.

 1.African extract rooibos hand & nail cream SPF 15-10ml (R29.99-50ml)

One of my top hand creams it light on the pocket, smells amazing, is a natural product packed with anti ageing properties like retinol and SPF, absorbed really quickly into the skin and leaves my hands feeling soft and pampered. I was introduced to this hand cream a while back in a past rubybox and I definitely always come back to this one. Popped this into my handbag as soon I opened the box very nice handy travel size.

2. John Frieda full repair oil elixir-full size (R110-100ml)

Was most excited to see this massive bottle in the box as there is a growing trend with hair oils lately. It complements greatly with the massive box of john frieda I was spoilt with a few months ago their products never disappoint. Firstly it smells absolutely amazing. I used 2 pumps as my hair is quite long after washing and followed by blow dying to help the product seep in better and my hair definitely felt smoother and looked more hydrated. You might find the idea of putting oil in your hair a strange concept but it is so light weight I didn’t even notice it was there and even if the scent bothers you I barely noticed the scent after applying it. I also like to apply this after I have curled my hair to give it more shine and over just washed hair to tame fly aways and frizz.

3.Nivea in-shower moisturiser-3x10ml sachets (R39.95-400ml)

Perfect for the cold winter that has come upon us as skin tends to dry up and get red and itchy and I know it’s horrible to bath in hot water but it’s a bad habit that keeps me warm and relaxes me but horrible for the skin. This is why Nivea invented an absolute god send. Saves so much time as sometimes I skip moisturiser and later feel the side effects and still end up running to my body lotion. You just wash as you usually do then slap this on and after a second I rinse off and get dressed as usual no more waiting for moisturiser to sink in before dressing. Smells like the normal nivea scent. It leave my skin feeling soft and not sticky. This is even better than a traditional body lotion in my opinion.

Nice comb for parting and detangling hair. Say goodbye to skew partings with this nifty trusted tool. This one is exclusively available at the rubybox boutique.

Love this. Can’t have enough headbands. This one looks very stylish and holds the hair back nicely . The multiple strands let’s you get creative with your hair.

Karl Lagerfeld fragrance unveiling


Karl announced back in October 2012 that he was cutting ties with Coty and embarking on a new fragrance venture with Inter Parfums SA.

“When lavender is too basic, I don’t like it, Especially in the modern world, there has to be a kind of sophistication and not too much of a down-to-earth garden, flowery hot-house mood. That’s from the past. There has to be a sophisticated twist in the perfume; if not, the old ones are better. The important thing with a perfume is to be new when it comes out and [then] turn into a classic in your bathroom.” Lagerfeld

The new scents for men and women are based on Lagerfeld’s desire to create fragrances that echo his edgy style, while still feeling classic as can be seen by the design of the bottle. The women’s version uses notes of lemon, peach, roses, magnolias, plumeria, and ambery woody notes, while the men’s scent is centered around an aromatic fern with lavender, mandarin zest, apple, violet leaves, sandalwood, and an amber blend.

KARL LAGERFELD FOR HER is a vibrant floral green fragrance with a fresh, metallic rose,electrified by lime and magnolia, illuminated by frangipani flower and softened by velvety peach, in a fabric of sensual musks oversewed by black ambery.


KARL LAGERFELD FOR HIM is a sensual masculine fougere aromatic, where lavender is enhanced by green violet and apple notes on an addictive, comfortable ambery woody dry-down and cold spicy notes of a race vibrant character.

Rihanna Rogue EDP


Rogue by Rihanna is the 4th fragrance released by Rihanna. For the most part, Rihanna’s fragrances have done well because they are not like your standard celebrity fragrances.

Rogue was developed by perfumer Marypierre Julien. Per Rihanna,

“People are always changing and evolving, and with Rogue, my new fragrance, I wanted to switch it up to reflect who I am today. It’s a personal fragrance that’s more self-aware. It’s Rogue, it’s me. This scent embodies demure feminine qualities yet carries into an audacious new moment. I made it for all women, for every mood, because we all want to project our true selves.”

I actually really loved the design. It’s clear and rectangular with a rose gold tinged perfume with six spikes on the bottom and a rectangular cap with a stingray leather like print. When I initially opened the box before reading the press release I was rather intrigued by the 6 unusual spikes at the bottom and later realized it was a clever design feature giving the illusion of “spiked juice”. It would look lovely on any dressing table.The bottle is fun and chic. Not only does the super sleek bottle look grown up and almost high end (I feel it has been somewhat influenced by D&G maybe it is just me but this bottle design reminds me of Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme Fragrance)

The fragrance is categorized as a Flirty Sensual Oriental.

Top notes: a fruity explosion of cyclamen, bergamot, pink peppercorn and lemon blossom

Middle notes: brings the florals into the mix of jasmine, rose, plum and suede

Base notes: bring oriental to the party with sandalwood, musk, patchouli, amber and vanilla.

From reading it is rather unusual as you can say that this crosses all fragrance matrix categories and
I wasn’t too sure if this would work to but surprisingly it does and the scents transition rather quickly as within an minutes it smelt as if i was wearing a completely different scent (you could imagine my confusion right I had to wear it a few time to be convinced it wasn’t any of my other products i was wearing but this is genius) This fragrance to me is smoky, sexy and sensual. This is a great evening fragrance for a hot date!The vanilla note does dominate making the scent warm and slightly sugary, despite the musky notes of amber this is a gentle fragrance that does linger on the skin but is soft enough for office wear. A warm, sensual vanilla mask based scent with the slightest fruity twist to allow it to be both fresh and playful. If you gravitate towards vanilla based scents be sure to check this out as I do think you will enjoy it, Rihanna fan or not. To sum up it is a mixture of floral, sweet, oriental, powdery and musky.

The new fragrance, vivid and intense, is a luxury special for an extraordinary lady – the kind that leaves a strong impression without much makeup on, without a special hair do or striking accessories, relying only on her charisma and confidence.


The composition opens with fresh accords of neroli, bitter orange and pear. The heart is ruled by white flowers: jasmine (from India, known as grandiflorum), lily of the valley (white and green) and orange blossom, while musk, vanilla and fine woods lurk in the background and give the composition powdery character.

The elongated design of the bottle is made of curves and angles inspired by the jewelry collection 4810. I particularly love the design of the bottle it looks like a 6 petal flower that resembles the mont blanc logo.

And then we have one for the men also released with the same name minus the “pour femme”


Legend is dedicated to inspiring, virtuous and self-confident men who are courageous, passionate and authentic. Their fragrance is subtle but striking and masculine.

Olivier Pescheux, the perfumer behind this fresh fougere creation, tried to make the fragrance filled with contrasts, combining notes that evoke strength and tenderness, tradition and modernity. The composition opens with fresh aromatic tones of bergamot, lavender, pineapple leaf and exotic verbena (Litsea Cubeba). The heart emphasizes oakmoss note (evernyl molecule) merged with geranium, coumarin, apple, rose, and Pomarosa molecule (notes of dried fruit). The base contains sandalwood, tonka and evernyl.

Heavy and slightly curved bottle of black and metallic colors is inspired by the famous Meisterstück pen design, made of glass and metal. The design is minimalistic and luxurious, perfect for the concept behind this fragrance. The black and white campaign features Simon Clark photographed by Peter Lindbergh.

I would say the top notes are fresh and bright with a hint of apple and cedar, A clean scent really but not soapy in the slightest. As the heart notes emerge, they become more flowery but quickly turned woodsy and much more masculine. Which makes sense considering this cologne is classified as predominantly fougère  or ‘fern-like’. It has a basic accord (works well with) lavender (which is probably what I interpreted as ‘flowery’) in the top note and oakmoss and coumarin in the base notes and has a small hint of spice as well. The base notes are dry and “leathery” as one person in my office put it, or “smells like a man” as another said. It is definitely a very masculine scent. Some have compared it to Abercrombie & Fitch’s Fierce but calling it more ‘mature’. Although it is recommended for casual wear, I think that it is a little too ‘sexy’ for the office or classroom.

Bring out the Queen B in everybody with these in trend studded head bands. Both functional and fashionable can be used keep your hair out your face or match an outfit. This is a great additional to my abundantly large head band collection.


2.     Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia-1.5ml(R789-50ml)

This scent to me is what autumn smells like an earthy with a hint of freshness scent. A mojito inspired blend of crushed mint leaves, brown sugar and Italian zest combined with feminine jasmine, peony, pink pepper, sensual cedar wood and labdanum. Very different scent with an interesting combination.


3.     Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio-1.5ml(R819-50ml)

This one is the male version of the above mentioned. This is the ultimate male fragrance and many women will agree. Inspired by the fresh sea, warm sun and richness of the earth absolutely stunning.


4.     Rimmel glam’eyes waterproof mascara-full size(R109.95)

I usually haven’t had much luck with the rimmel mascaras because they tend to run and flake and I end up with a black eye but since this one is waterproof it hardly budge. The formula is thick so it coats the lashes really well without clumping. I wouldn’t say it really curls, lengthens or creates volume but it is nice for a day out where you just want a natural clean look.


5.     Schwarzkopf gliss satin smooth shampoo-50ml(R59.99-250ml)

Much needed for autumn which is usually hello frizz for hair. This shampoo has the yummy scent of all the products in the range which is a taming and gloss inducing shampoo that won’t leave your hair looking dry or dehydrated. Upon the first wash I already noticed the shine my hair felt smoother, stronger and less frizzy. Absolutely amazing.
