Review: YSL LIBRE Le Parfum

Yves Saint Laurent has just launched a new additional to their Libre range and it is perfect for the colder months.

The info:

Libre is the French word for ‘free’, and YSL has encaptured that enduring spirit of empowerment in their best-selling fragrance collection. Since 1961, the Yves Saint Laurent woman has been fierce, bold and unapologetic, and each Libre fragrance has mirrored these traits.

Libre Le Parfum intensifies the signature of the original scent with a spicy saffron accord.

Crafted exclusively for YSL, the saffron accord is at the heart of the fragrance and harvested directly from our Ourika Gardens in Morocco, a tribute to Mr. Saint Laurent’s favourite ‘fleur de feu’, the saffron flower. The spice of the key notes is set against a smooth and ambery base which fuses vanilla, honey and vetiver for depth and intensity.

The packaging:

The fragrance comes in a beautifully-designed bottle, which features a bold silhouette and is embellished by the oversized gold YSL logo. The slanted black cap with sleek golden chain wound around the neck. The deep red liquid embodies the theme of fire in a bottle.

The scent:

The new scent is set to add a fiery and spicy element to the original floral fragrance.

Top notes: bergamot, mandarin, ginger, saffron accord

Heart notes: orange blossom, diva lavender heart, lavandin heart

Base notes: vanilla burbon, honey accord, vetiver

When I spray this I get the ginger and the saffron that adds that spiciness and warmth which makes it perfect for the colder months ahead. I also get vetiver which adds that herbal greenness and then the tonka bean which adds to the spice. Saffron is also a very expensive ingredient to put in perfumes which is why it is not found in many perfumes again making YSL stand out from the crowd. It’s much warmer than the original. I would describe it as a spicy floral. The lasting power is great on this I get roughly 8 hours lasting power.

This fragrance is available from Brown Thomas and Arnotts. RRP €132 for 90ml, €102 for 50ml and €74 for 30ml.

Disclosure: YSL PR sent me this product. All opinions in this blog post are 100% my own and honest.
