Review: Gelish Dip

I’m sure all girls will agree with me that getting your nails done is one of the best feelings in the world with well deserved pamper you time. I’ve been through all the nail stages from painting my nails when I was in high school to gelish nails and polygel in Varsity.  I am always looking to try new things which is why I jumped at the chance to try the new nail system gelish dip.

The pink shimmery shade I chose is called “pink elegant” and the glitter is “it’s my party”

What is gelish dip you may be wondering?

Well in a nutshell dip your nails in some powder and come out with beautifully manicured talons. No lamps or amazing painting skills required.

Basically it Gelish and acrylic having a baby.  Not as soft and flexible as gel but not quite so hard as traditional acrylic. Which equals lighter and thinner coats , and not prone to cracks and chipping like acrylic nails.

Rather than requiring ninja like skills in applying the perfect layers of polish which must not touch the cuticle and spending time drying your nails under a lamp, your nail technician applies a base coat, dips your nails into a pigmented powder, tap nail to get excess of skin, repeat, buff, and voila. The whole process takes less than 30 minutes, ideal for the normal busy ladies on the go! It’s odorless too. The colour sticks to the nail and not the cuticles.

How long does a Gelish Dip mani last?

I would say you can push it for 3 weeks. Basically it is glued to your nails until your natural nail growth pushes the colour up. You can even do a fill not like gelish where you can’t fill although with the amazing colour selection I recommend a change. It does not chip and the colour does not fade and keeps it’s shine. I would mention though that this does not give you as glossy finish as a normal gelish or gel but still a bit of gloss.

Where can I get a Gelish Dip manicure?

At all Sorbet Salons but some other salons may stock it too.

How do you remove?

Easily via a soak off but 15 minutes longer than a gelish polish. So about 20 minutes.

How much does it cost?

Around R300 on average.

Review: Dove intensive repair shampoo and conditioner

20180722_0856101287099613.jpg

This new Dove Intense Repair range promises to:
– make hair 10x stronger against damage by strengthening hair fibre from the core
– prevent split ends

The Keratin Repair Actives which is mentioned a lot, is it’s patented breakthrough formula that repairs hair at a deeper level by stabilising the protein deep inside the hair fibre.By performing at cellular level, the core of the hair is repaired and strengthened up to 10 times.

As for Dove Intense Repair Conditioner, it contains new Microsheets Technology that evenly coats hair so you can comb it easily when wet to prevent breakage.

Dove Intensive Repair shampoo:

The shampoo lathers well. The appearance is pearlized which contributes to the shine of your hair. After the first wash you actually feel like you can  get away without the conditioner since the hair feels so soft and smells heavenly.

Dove Intensive Repair conditioner:

I use a R5 coin size of this focusing on the ends of my hair. After the rinse, my hair feels a soft and smooth and manageable but this is probably from the silicone it contains.

Review: Dove DermaSpa Goodness³ Hand Cream

20180527_174531646415686.jpg

Dove Dermaspa Goodness hand treatment is a hand cream that claims to be fast absorbing, leaving hands feeling velvety soft, and skin looking even and luminous. The formula contains ‘surface cell-moisturisers’ which it claims are key moisturising actives compressed from natural seed oils, which have been blended with omega oil. The product can be used both day and night and whenever skin feels dry.

The DermaSpa Goodness³ collection combines omega oil with Cell-Moisturisers™ which work at the heart of skin cells, leaving the skin full of moisture. Omega oil, known to replenish the skin’s barrier, is infused in Dove’s active formula to smooth skin’s texture, leaving it velvety soft and even looking.

My Experience:

Packaging:

Dove Derma Spa Goodness hand cream comes in a slim 75ml plastic satin finish tube with a bronze gold cap. I love the way it looks and feels from the outside it looks simple and chic. The tube is plastic but the soft kind of squeezy plastic.  The colour scheme makes it look luxurious and expensive. The tube has a sturdy hard screw lid and a single twist to open and close is all that is required. The tube is very flat and does not take up much space.

Consistency:
The hand cream is off white in color with creamy consistency. The hand cream is a it watery and not too thick and absorbs really quickly. A very small amount is sufficient for my hands. You can definitely feel the silicone as it makes the hands silky.

Fragrance:
I was glad this isn’t the typical dove smell. I quite enjoy the scent the fragrance includes deliciously indulgent notes of creamy vanilla, succulent coconut and musk for added opulence.

Feel:
The hand cream leaves my hand silky smooth and soft. This hand cream is targeted for dry skin. As noted above the silicone is what makes the hands feel silky. The product has not caused any kind of irritation or redness. It’s suitable for sensitive skin. Does not feel oily, greasy or sticky after application and feels super light weight.

Overall:
It’s a drugstore product, but the appearance and results are of that of a spa product. It’s a bit pricey when compared to other drugstore hand creams, but it’s totally worth the price.

Review: Carbon Coco Natural Teeth Whitening

20180310_1357362045883526.jpg

The past couple of years have seen charcoal face masks, cleansers, detoxes and now teeth whiteners. I have seen the fuss of this black charcoal teeth whitening treatment for a while now and I have to admit I have always been rather intrigued being a avid teeth whitener and all.

Carbon Coco is an Australian company that provides all-natural vegan friendly alternatives to oral care and teeth whitening. Carbon Coco Activated Charcoal Tooth Polish is made from organic coconut shell activated charcoal, bentonite powder and lemon myrtle. Carbon Coco claims to help you reduce plaque, detoxify your mouth, promote healthy gums, freshen your breath, protect enamel and helps with future stains.

Activated charcoal is a highly absorbent substance. It removes toxins when they adhere to the surface of the charcoal. It is not absorbed by the body, but passes through the GI system, so chemicals and toxins adhere to it, which then pass through the body and are expelled by the digestive system. Charcoal is “activated” when it is heated and/or exposed to specific gases. This process results in the creation of pores on the surface of the charcoal, which have the ability to trap certain particles. In the case of teeth whitening, the pores would be trapping and absorbing tannins, common stain-inducers found in wine and coffee.

The pack comes with:

  • 1 tub of Original Carbon Coco medical grade Activated Charcoal Tooth Polish.
  • 1 tube of Activated Charcoal Toothpaste. I couldn’t find the ingredients list, but it doesn’t contain Fluoride which I would prefer since that is an ingredient that strengthens teeth)
  • 1 Toothbrush with Bamboo Bristles

This black stuff isnt your average, every day charcoal. Itactivated charcoal, which is designed for medicinal use. So it is safe for you to use and you will still be alive if you accidentally ingest some.

The Benefits ….

  • NO added chemicals
  • Strengthens enamel
  • Whitens teeth
  • Polishes to remove build up
  • Vegan, 100% organic
  • Money back guarantee
  • Free basic world wide shipping.

At R540 it is a bit on the pricey side but with the size of the product and the amount you use it will last you very long.

How to use:

Simply wet the bamboo toothbrush, dip into the powder and tap off. Brush teeth for 3o seconds, rinse and brush teeth normally with toothpaste.

Carbon Coco says the product is safe for teeth and non-damaging to tooth enamel. The products are not abrasive at all and they basically just absorb and pull out toxins and stains away from the teeth. Also, the charcoal powder is very fine so it doesn’t harm the enamel. The tooth polish also has bentonite clay that helps remineralise your teeth. Both have no harmful chemicals as well.

Because the activated charcoal has adhesive properties, it adheres to stains to remove them.

The powder is tres messy. It gets all over the sink and you look like a horror movie character with it in my mouth. Luckily it wasnt too much of a pain to clean up, as I basically washed away with water and did not stain the sink. The tooth paste comes out scary black but changes into a minty white foam once you start brushing. Also the tooth paste doesn’t seem to contain fluoride which is something I would’ve liked to strengthen my teeth.

I didn’t notice massive whitening results it basically only pulls existing coffee and tea stains off your teeth slowly but if you want pearly whites you will need to stick to bleaching teeth with some kind of product that contains peroxide however this is great for daily use if you just want to lift stains off your teeth. Another down fall is brushing your teeth for 6 mins is a bit time consuming especially at night when I just want to brush my teeth for the recommended 2 mins and then pass out. Otherwise all in all this is a great product to try and use but just don’t expect miracles.
